Founded in 1999 by a group of physically challenged individuals, Adaptive Adventures is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization working to advance the quality of life of people with disabilities through outdoor sports and recreation. The agency identifies, promotes, and provides progressive sports and recreation opportunities for children, adults and veterans with physical disabilities.
Driven by its belief in ‘freedom through mobility’ and the core values of affordability, independence, and leadership, Adaptive Adventures is a national leader in providing adaptive recreational activities such as cycling, water sports, winter sports, and children and adolescent programming. The agency also sponsors an online Information Resource Center designed to deliver information, support, and resources to those interested in adaptive sports and recreation.
Adaptive Adventures is a mobile, non resort- based organization, working hard to "bring programs to people" as opposed to "people to programs." Our programs offer opportunities for people with physical disabilities including, but not limited to: amputations, paraplegia, quadriplegia, birth defects, cerebral palsy, head injuries, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, strokes and visual impairments. Our programs, expert staff and dedicated volunteers -- many who are also physically challenged -- have allowed us to establish ourselves as a nationwide leader in the world of adaptive sports and recreation. Our knowledgeable and experienced team is a known resource to therapists, rehabilitation hospitals, parks and recreation departments and peer organizations.
The organization has offices in Colorado and Illinois. For more information on Adaptive Adventures, check out the website at www.adaptiveadventures.org or call 877-679-2770.
