Highlands Ranch disabled veteran leads by example with Adaptive Adventures

Thirty years ago, Army Spc. David Wolf tumbled five stories off the top of a building while stationed in Germany, suffering a non-combat injury that would alter his career path and change his life forever.

After spending the next half-year in intensive care, Wolf had begun the recovery process from a broken back. That didn’t change the fact that he was paralyzed from the waist down and would never walk again.

His life has been a battle of ups and downs ever since, as he’s battled PTSD, depres

Skokie film screening supports Wilmette’s Adaptive Adventures

Coming from the Sundance Film Festival to Skokie’s North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, “The Movement” will make its Chicago premier on April 19.

Produced and directed by Kurt Miller, narrated by Robert Redford, and ski legend Miller, with music by The Foo Fighters and U2, “The Movement” profiles five disabled athletes who regain a sense of independence and newfound confidence through skiing. Adaptive Adventures was featured on by Karen Meyer on ABC 7 Chicago leading up to the Chicago Premier of The Movement. The piece was filmed on location on the Chicago River at one of the location's utilized for our kayaking programs and operated by Kayak Chicago - a decade long partner of Adaptive Adventures. The shoot also featured 5-time Paralympic Athlete and Adaptive Adventures Mentor / Coach Paul Moran. With great weather for early April in Chicago, we were able to kayak and handcycle for the filming.

The grant will be used to support Adaptive Sports for Kids (ASK), a program of Adaptive Adventures, designed to provide year around sports opportunities for children and young adults with physical disabilities.
