DENVER METRO BIKE RIDE SUPPORTS THREE NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, WILL RAISE FUNDS TO PROVIDE ADAPTIVE RECREATION FOR PHYSICALLY DISABLED

Hundreds of cyclists from all over the Rocky Mountain region will ride 10k, 50k, or 100k on Sept. 25 to raise funds to support Craig Hospital, Adaptive Adventures, and U.S. Handcycling

EVERGREEN, CO – June 2, 2010: The inaugural Jam the Damz will roll out for this first time in the Denver area, Saturday September 25. The ride aims to raise funds for three Colorado adaptive recreation programs: Craig Hospital, Adaptive Adventures, and U.S. Handcycling. Cyclists of all ages, experience levels and abilities are invited to register as a ride-participant, volunteer, or fundraiser, through the event website:http://www.jamthedamz.org. The route will include traverses over both the Bear Creek and Chatfield reservoir dams, and will be a truly integrated event that includes two-wheeled cyclists, and “para cyclists” who ride handcycles or other adaptive bikes.

Jam the Damz is an inclusive endeavor, and includes 10k, 50k, and 100k route options that cater to almost anyone. The event includes an after party, complete with food, entertainment, and a surprise celebrity guest. More than 60% of the route will be on bike paths or roads only open to bikes and the event is open to individuals, couples, families, and even teams. “We are excited about the opportunity to work with Craig Hospital and US Handcycling to promote cycling for people with disabilities in Colorado while raising funds to support these growing programs…. we hope to make this an annual event that involves hundreds of athletes with and without disabilities, their friends, families and the community at large” said Adaptive Adventures Program Director, Matt Feeney.

Jam the Damz utilizes a new, cutting edge, online fundraising approach, that enables ride participants to register online, and ask their friends and family to support their efforts on the ride through online donations, including facebook and twitter. “We really believe that this is an easy event for almost any cyclist to get behind and support, and we want to facilitate that by making fundraising fun and easy.” said Andrew Tepen of U.S. Handcycling. There will also be incentives for top fundraisers, and special prizes for ride participants at the ride after party.

“This event is really a great way for us to create a fun exciting day of cycling while simultaneously raising funds to support three great causes.” said U.S. Handcycling Executive Director, Ian Lawless.  “Funds raised by Jam the Damz participants will help Craig Hospital’s Therapeutic Recreation Program meet our goals to promote health, wellness, and independence for recent spinal cord and traumatic brain injured individuals.” added Claire Cahow, CTRS of Craig Hospital.

Registration for the ride is just $25, and each participant is asked to raise an additional $60 or more through the friends asking friends fundraising system. There is also an option for entire families to register, as well as teams (including corporate teams), all of which can be accessed through the event website: http://www.jamthedamz.org
