The Movement Chicago Premiere

The Chicago Premiere of The Movement was a huge success with over 350 people in attendance from the City, Northshore and surrounding areas. Attendees enjoyed the All Abilities Sports Expo prior to the film, along with a silent auction full of great prizes. After the film, guests participated in a Q&A with the filmmaker, Kurt Miller and Matt Feeney, one of the film's athletes and co-founder of Adaptive Adventures.

Volunteer Spotlight - Dan Fowler

Of all of the volunteers that have given their valuable time and resources to Adaptive Adventures, none are more passionate or dedicated than Dan Fowler.  Fowler, who started his volunteering journey in 1982 at the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) in Winter park, has been a key part of Adaptive Adventures since its’ inception and has more recently accepted a position on the Adaptive Adventure’s board of directors.  “I’ve known Dan for more than 20 years”, said Outreach Director Matt Feeney.  “His patience is only matched by his desire to help people.  This became clear to me right away as Dan picked me up out of the snow several hundred times when I was first learning how to ski after my accident.”

Fowler, a Boulder native, has also been involved in Adaptive Adventures’ summer programs, donating his ski boat and access to a private lake in Longmont enabling Adaptive Adventures to host many events there over the years.  He has also volunteered for The Lake Powell Experience trips in the early days of the organization, where he met his wife, Shelly, who also gives her valuable time to Adaptive Adventures.  “They really get it” said Executive Director, Joel Berman.  “They both have a sense for the needs of the disabled community and are always willing to support our efforts.”

Dan and Shelly live in Boulder, the new home of Adaptive Adventures in Colorado, so  we expect to see a lot more of them in the coming years.  “It’s great to see the progress of Adaptive Adventures and how far the organization has come in a relatively short time” said Dan.  “I’m looking forward to being part of this growth as Adaptive Adventures continues to meet the demands of the disabled community”

Thanks Dan!

Worst Western Hotel/Ski Bum crash pad

I met Dan in '85 when I joined NSCD--thanks to a fellow CSU Alum Teresa Montano and Artist Tom Sullivan-- both totally w/o vision and awsome skiers. As a poor student, workin' my way through college, Dan would let me stay many-a-time on the cheap at the "Worst Western" in Frazer, so I could spend weekends as a guide/instructor.

Dave Wolf at an Adaptive Adventures All Mountain Ski camp

Highlands Ranch disabled veteran leads by example with Adaptive Adventures

Thirty years ago, Army Spc. David Wolf tumbled five stories off the top of a building while stationed in Germany, suffering a non-combat injury that would alter his career path and change his life forever.

After spending the next half-year in intensive care, Wolf had begun the recovery process from a broken back. That didn’t change the fact that he was paralyzed from the waist down and would never walk again.

His life has been a battle of ups and downs ever since, as he’s battled PTSD, depres

sion and alcoholism. But Wolf considers himself lucky. READ MORE
