Chelsea is a Colorado native that started her career far from the world of outdoor sports. Chelsea owned and operated a dance studio in Broomfield, Colorado that served over 200 families. Chelsea became known in the community for her work with children with physical disabilities and started teaching many students with mobility limitations and visual impairments. In 2010, Chelsea sold her dance studio and pursued combining her passion for serving people with physical disabilities and her love for our nation's veterans.
As a daughter of a disabled Vietnam Veteran, Chelsea looked for opportunities to get veterans out and active in the community. Chelsea teamed up with Chris Wiegand (Adaptive Adventures current Paddlesports and Cycling Manager) and together they founded a small community inclusion program serving kids, adults and veterans. Chris and Chelsea began volunteering for Adaptive Adventures and eventually helped create the organizations dragon boat program before being hired on full time. Chelsea served as the Military Operations Manager and was responsible for all of the grant writing, reporting and delivery of military programs throughout the country for Adaptive Adventures.
Chelsea now serves as Executive Director, where she oversees all aspects of the organization. Chelsea is passionate about coaching in the dragon boat program, as well as, instructing in the whitewater paddling and climbing programs. Chelsea cherishes the "aha" moments when the "impossible" becomes possible for a participant through outdoor recreation.
