Gwen Burkett

Program Staff

Gwen is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) who joined the Adaptive Adventures team in January of 2018 after working in the field of therapeutic recreation and adaptive sports for the last 7 years. Gwen serves as a CTRS Program Staff Member and CTRS Internship Supervisor at Adaptive Adventures.

She received a BS in Human Physiology from the University of Oregon and then continued to get a BS in Therapeutic Recreation from California State University, Chico. She was raised in northern California where she volunteered and worked for several adaptive recreation programs including Ability First Sports and Environmental Traveling Companions. Throughout college, she worked with youth with physical and developmental disabilities and developed multiple adaptive youth recreation programs for various organizations. An internship at Craig Hospital brought her over to Colorado where she fell in love with the Rocky Mountains and abandoned the sunny state of California to live here at “mile high” as a Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator for the City of Aurora.

In her spare time, Gwen loves to be outdoors doing anything that gives her that adrenaline rush: bungee jumping off bridges, hiking to the top of a mountain, kayaking through white water, spelunking through caves, and snowboarding through fresh powder.
