At Adaptive Adventures, innovation is at the heart of everything we do. Our Innovation Program is dedicated to advancing the field of adaptive recreation and improving quality of life by developing creative solutions that break down barriers to participation for individuals with physical disabilities.
From custom-built adaptive equipment to new program models that meet the needs of underserved communities, our team is always looking for ways to go beyond the expected. We partner with adaptive athletes, veterans, therapists, University Human Design and Engineering programs, their students, outdoor retailers, designers, and industry experts to create accessible, inclusive, and replicable solutions that elevate the participant experience, supporting all abilities to thrive in outdoor recreation.
Key Focus Areas:
Development and field testing of adaptive cycling, kayaking, climbing, and ski equipment
Collaborations with manufacturers and universities to prototypes of cutting-edge and innovative designs
Consulting for the Outdoor Retail Industry in inclusive design and marketing

The Innovation Program positions Adaptive Adventures as a truly one-of-a-kind asset in the world of outdoor recreation and inclusive health initiatives. Unlike any other organization, we design and deliver groundbreaking, field-tested solutions that directly address gaps in access, equipment, and program delivery, redefining what’s possible for people with physical disabilities and the communities that support them.
Student Solutions Program
Our Student Solutions Program bridges the gap between academic learning and real-world impact. Through this initiative, Adaptive Adventures partners with high school, college, and graduate students to tackle real challenges in the adaptive recreation space.
Students from engineering, design, business, occupational therapy, and other fields collaborate with our team to co-create practical solutions that enhance accessibility, equipment design, outreach strategies, and data collection. Each student project contributes directly to improving the lives of our participants while giving students meaningful, hands-on experience in inclusive design and community engagement.
A key feature of this program is our partnership with BAE Systems, a global leader in defense and aerospace technology. Students participating in capstone projects are paired with BAE Systems mentors who guide and support the development of their designs. At the conclusion of the project, many students are scouted for career opportunities with BAE Systems, creating a powerful pipeline from purpose-driven learning to impactful employment.
