All participants in our ongoing military programs will receive resources that provide strength, conditioning, and nutrition guidance for those looking to improve not just their skiing, cycling, climbing or paddling ability, but their overall health and wellness, as well. Adaptive Adventures offers opportunities in a variety of sports throughout the year. Adaptive Adventures specializes in outdoor sports including regular programming in: alpine skiing, snowboarding, Nordic skiing, cycling, kayaking, rock climbing, scuba, water-skiing and wakeboarding, sailing and dragon boat.
Our small group setting creates a comfortable, social atmosphere to facilitate social interaction and peer-to-peer bonding. Mentors play a key role at the camps. They provide a level of guidance, empathy, and inspiration that can only be derived from someone who has experienced a similar life situation.
An event begins by identifying, contacting, and engaging wounded warriors. In some cases, warriors learn about Adaptive Adventures through our relationship with major military medical centers such as Balboa, Walter Reed, or Brooke Army Medical. Warriors may also learn about Adaptive Adventures at a Veterans’ Administration hospital, the Department of Defense State Liaison Office, veteran’s service organizations, or other adaptive sports groups. In some instances, it is a case manager, liaison officer, physical therapist, occupational therapist, or one of a dozen organizations or agencies with whom we have a partnership. Many warriors who attend our programs are either return participants or heard about Adaptive Adventures from their peers.
