“After 19 years… I was able to move freely” – David
David is an Army veteran, who lost his identity at 26 years old when an RPG blew up outside his vehicle. After his leg was amputated he went decades without realizing what he still could do. It wasn’t until he came to Adaptive Adventures programs with the VA that the world opened up to him. Watch his story of moving from surviving to thriving here.

The Christiansen family has three boys with differing disabilities. They were ecstatic to find programs that allowed them to recreate together as a family. They had found it challenging to find programs that accommodated individuals with visual impairments but fell in love with the instruction and care they found with Adaptive Adventures. Erika was introduced to Adaptive Adventures through the VA. Erika started out attending programs on oxygen due to Lupus. Erika is a fighter through and through. She has been through her fair share of challenges in the past few years. Erika has found a family with us and a support system she never knew before. Jim was an outdoorsman before he was injured. After his injury he spent several years isolated. He was unaware of the resources that existed for individuals like him. He was introduced to Adaptive Adventures which not only allowed him to return to outdoor recreation that he loved but he also found a community he never knew existed. Watch his moving story here.

Amy gradually lost her vision and while she was adapting to her new way of life she was introduced to Adaptive Adventures. Amy was determined to try all of the events offered but found a love for dragon boating. Specifically, Amy loves being a part of a team and being competitive. About Adaptive Adventures
Adaptive Adventures is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides and establishes sustainable outdoor sports programs for individuals with physical disabilities and their families in the most underserved communities across the country, providing freedom through mobility and normalizing adaptation in sports. As the only fully mobile adaptive sports program in the country we bring the programs to the people removing all barriers including location, equipment needs and economic status.
